It was about a week ago that I bought a new painting for our living room. I bought it on Tuesday, wire transfered the money on Wednesday (no checks in Switzerland), had it delivered on Friday, and I did the hanging today. The painting is called Sterngucker which I'm saying is Stargazer in English. The gallery owner couldn't tell me for sure, but Stargazer is my interpretation...and I'm stickin' to it!
The painting has a lot of meaning to us because it's: predominantly orange (my favorite color), painted by a Basel artist, and painted in 2000 - the year we moved to Basel.
The gallery owner told me that The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery was the inspiration for the painting. When he delivered the painting to our apartment, he handed me a book and told me "...zat I find zee book for you in English." It was a version of The Little Prince translated from French. I was somehow incredibly touched by his effort. Imagine, the guy went to the trouble of going to a bookstore and finding the English version of the book. I think Mrs. TBF thought I had somehow turned into a real wuss...but...I was touched, DAMN IT!!!
So, here it is. I think I'll make myself a nice cup of jasmine tea, light a couple of scented candles, read my book, and stare at the painting from time to time.
Just...leave me alone, damn it!

I love the painting! And iif you ever move back or bring it over to the states, well you'll have one sentimental painting! I like it!

The Little Prince rocks. "Draw me a sheep..." Good stuff. I'm not sure I see the connection to the painting, though (unless the color symbolises the desert?).
Michael-That's right...no checks in Switzerland. You either pay by cash, credit card, debit card, or payment slip. With the payment slip: you can either take it to the post office and pay there with cash or a Post Card (basically a debit card), send the payment slip to your bank to have them debit your account, OR you can take the numbers off of the payment slip and pay electronically over the internet (that's the way I do it!). Many options, but checks are not one of them.
I too am often moved by random acts of kindness. No need to feel like a 'wuss'.
