It Could Be Worse...

...you could be trying to learn Finnish.

I enjoy reading the challenges my fellow ex-pat bloggers encounter during the journey called "learning German" or "learning French". But let me tell you, it could be worse. Don't believe me?

German: 4 grammatical cases

Finnish: 15 grammatical cases

German classes were tough. French classes, in my opinion, were even tougher. Man, am I glad that I will NEVER, EVER have to struggle through Finnish classes!

You want to know the really sad thing, says the guy who actually has to go through it? Most of the cases are easy peasy. Then comes everything else.
And hey, three or four of those cases are only ever used in writing, never in spoken language. Hey - a lot easier, just at once.

Tobias - One of my cousins in Finland has an American husband. On his first day of Finnish language class, the teacher spent fifteen minutes giving a basic outline of some of the rules. Then, she said to pretty much ignore what she had just said because there are more exceptions than there are rules.

TSK - Congratulations! Your 7-day TBFBB suspension is over, and you are now under supervision.
2nd violation = 30-day suspension
3rd violation = lifetime suspenshun (watch it!)

Learning French was a walk in the park for me. Mainly because I was in elementary school. I used to laugh at the flunkies in French class. Man is my karma paying me back royally now-- Arabic and German are slowly killing me.
