Sunshine On My Shoulder...

...makes me happy.

It looks like we're going to have some nice weather here in Basel this week.

That being said...

Why am I sitting in the apartment NOT enjoying the nice weather?

Don't All Guess At Once...

We're in Scotland. More specifically, we're in Edinburgh with our Basel-based, Scottish friend Jeanette.

Of course, I had this romantic image of walking around Edinburgh in the fog and drizzle, but...

...we arrived to find nothing but blue skies.

What is it about me and the U.K.? Every time I go there it's warm and sunny.

I guess I'm just unlucky.

Friday Flashback: Sky King

We're going to have an early start tomorrow morning; 4:30 a.m. wake up, 5:30 a.m. taxi to the airport, 6:45 a.m. flight to London, and then an 11:35 a.m. (London time) flight to Chicago.

I love flying to Chicago. Actually, I love flying...period! Sure, I love going to see friends and family, eating all the food I miss eating on a regular basis, and just getting a grand old dose of all things Americana. But the thing I like most about flying is that once you're up in the air...it's always sunny. Yes, it's gray and dreary here in Basel today, but tomorrow at this time I'll be seeing nothing but clear blue skies and sunshine (if I'm not asleep).

In honor of tomorrow's flight, I dug deep through the photo albums to pull out this photo from the day - 7.5 years ago - when Mrs. TBF left for Switzerland. I stayed behind (with the pets) to finish working, sell the house, etc. At one point, we walked into our old bedroom and King was relaxing in one of Mrs. TBF's suitcases. Apparently, he didn't want to wait to head to Switzerland for his twilight years (that never seem to end!).

We learned from that experience; we no longer leave open suitcases on the floor. I guess another thing I like about Chicago is walking around wearing clothes that don't have cat hair on 'em.

ALMOST Perfect...

Yesterday was almost a perfect day. I didn't even realize it until Mrs. TBF pointed it out to me late in the evening while we were watching football.

The day started off well with an omelet and some bacon. Then, the morning fog burned off revealing a beautiful blue sky. I'm telling you that I didn't see a cloud all day. We went for a long walk (not part of a perfect day, but enjoyable nonetheless), and then we went up to the rooftop to soak in the late afternoon sun.

Later that evening, while I was stuffing Mrs. TBF's homemade Chicago-style pizza down my throat and washing it down with a little Chianti in front of the TV, Mrs. TBF pointed out that the only thing missing from my "perfect day" list was the sauna. Damn that sauna!!! It's always the spoiler! My last perfect day was a few weeks ago while we were in Spain for my birthday, and the other days were perfect except for the fact that I had forgotten to take a sauna.

What the hell kind of Finn am I???

Oh well...I'm not complaining too much. I mean, we did enjoy a nice bath. AND...the Bears did beat the Packers (although I didn't find this out until the next morning). So, I'm giving the day 4.5 out of 5, and I'm calling it as perfect a day as possible without actually being perfect. And...that's not too shabby.

Friday Flashback: Sky Blue Sky

Oh...I freakin' give up already!

Today is the first beautiful, warm, blue-sky, day in I don't know how long. I was going to be a lazy arse and spend about three minutes finding a nice photo of Mrs. TBF and I from the archives with a blue sky in the background, post it, and then head outside to enjoy the day. And...guess what? It took me an hour to find a photo of the two of us together, with a blue sky in the background, that...I HADN'T PREVIOUSLY POSTED ON THE BLOG!

Sheesh!

Here's the stinkin' photo photo from this past Christmas Day in Rome!

Hope you all have a nice weekend.

It's time to go get my tan on!

Time To Relax...

Along with being more than satisfied with my list of the morning's accomplishments, the sky had cleared and the sun was shining brightly by the time I got home.

Time to relax...

I grabbed the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine, a cup of coffee, and my iPod Shuffle. When I opened the front door, King lead the way up to the roof.

We parked ourselves on the bench, sheltered from the wind, in the warm sunshine. That was all King needed. Normally he walks around and explores; but not today. Today, he just parked himself on the bench, closed his eyes, and hardly moved.

Well, he did wake up to tell me that I had my finger on Pete Wentz's nipple.
