Achtung, Baby! I Have An Announcement To Make...

Berlin is a pretty cool city. I'd recommend it, AND I'd go back. Es tut mir leid for last week's lack of excitement for Berlin (and Germany in general). I'm blaming a "...general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament."

We stayed at the Hotel Adlon which is right by the Brandenburg Gate. Not only did we receive an upgrade to a Junior Suite (I'm tellin' ya, ya gotta ask!) with a view of the rather futuristic courtyard (lifetime employment for the window cleaner!), but I also found out that Mariah Carey had stayed at the hotel. Just in case she stayed in our room (unlikely), I touched every single surface. I also touched every surface in the lobby AND every elevator button. Wait a second...what am I thinking? Doesn't Mariah have a designated elevator button pusher in her entourage? Ummm....thought so. Dammit!

After waiting a good twenty minutes for our bags to be brought up to our room (I'll bet that Mariah didn't have to wait that long!), we quickly unpacked our bags and then set out to explore Berlin. We stopped for a quick chat with the concierge, he gave us a map, and we walked out into Pariser Platz. So much to see, and so little time. What should we see first? Should we explore East Berlin? West Berlin? Potsdamer Platz? Checkpoint Charlie? The Wall?

Hey...is THAT a...? Could it be???? DUNKIN' DONUTS!!!!!!!

Good to know that you have your priorities straight!

And I think I'll go out today and get "insane genius" printed on a t-shirt.

You must no that we stopped the "Double D" every day during our recent Berlin visit! And I don't even really like donuts... but it was an American treat nonetheless.

By the way, are you blocking my comments? I don't think my last comments appeared...

I can't believe I forgot to tell you there were Dunkin Donuts all over the city...as alluded to in Gretchen's post, by the end of our weekend we had gone so often we just took to calling it "the double D".

Mariah's luggage probably got to the room before she did. And DD's a good place to start. You don't want to do all that sightseeing on an empty stomach, right?

Berlin is a great city. I lived there for a summer 10 years ago and marvel at how much the city has changed on each subsequent visit.

Christina - I'm glad I've inspired you.

KGB (Kirk, Gretchen, Baby)...my new name for the three of you - I'm glad to hear that you're Double D fans. I was disappointed that the Berlin DDs did not have buttermilk donuts - probably the best donuts of all time!

CS - There's nothing like DD to raise the blood sugar!

Chris - Did Berlin have Dunkin' Donuts ten years ago?
